Ever been surprised by someone you thought you knew? So much so that it left you stunned with your mouth gaping open large enough for a train to go right though? Yep I have and it happened over the weekend. You see my Dad is not the most technological minded or computer ‘socialable’ kind of man. He knows how to check his emails and search for things on Google, but that is as far as his knowledge of computers and the internet goes. Or so I though.
Blow me down then, when he comes up to me and asked me to help him set up his Twitter account! Said he wasn’t sure what all the ‘pretty pictures’ (icons) meant and what to do with them. This is from someone that only recently told me that having my Facebook and Twitter accounts are a waste of time!
This got me thinking that there would be more people out there like my dad that are not too sure what to do with there accounts now that they have them. So here are some of the terms and functions that are used on Twitter explained.
Username: This is the name you use to brand yourself. You can use your name or a variation of your name if your full name is already taken. Try to avoid using numbers or _ underscores especially if you are branding yourself or your company.
To Follow: To find people to follow, click on the “Find People” option on the top Menu. This will help you find friends or people with similar interests/hobbies or business to your own. When you have found someone you would like to follow, simply click on the “Follow” button on that person’s Twitter page. When you follow someone, their updates will be displayed on your Twitter page so you know what they are doing.
To Follow Back: To subscribe to the updates of someone who has recently started following you. On your home page under your username you will find the number of people following you (Followers), click on this and you will see if there are any new people following you – they will be displayed at the top of the page. Your can decide to follow them or not.
Tweet. Also know as an update. It is similar to your Facebook status updates, but Tweets can not be longer than 140 characters. Type your update in the white text box under “What are you doing?”
@Reply: A public message sent from one Twitter user to another by typing the @USERNAME at the beginning of the tweet, OR you can place your curser over the tweet you would like to reply to and on the bottom right hand side you will see a ‘reply’ option. Click on it and type your message. There is also a Retweet option there as well.
Retweet (or RT): To repeat what someone else has already tweeted. You can do this if someone has said something especially valuable and you want your followers to see the information as well.
Twitter Stream: This is a list of a person’s real time updates. Every time you post an update, it goes into your Twitter stream. You can see all your tweets by simply clicking on your username on your home page.
So that was just seven functions of many available on Twitter. If you have a favourite one I’d love to hear about it.
Yours in success
Anja

Successfully,
Thinking of starting your own internet Business? If you’re anything like me, you’re sick of your 9 – 5 job (or as I call it Just Over Broke), living from week to week on your measly paycheck, just managing to pay the bills and wishing that somehow one day that you will win the lottery or inherit some money from a long lost relative???
Yet sadly, in reality, you know that winning the lottery or getting an inheritance is bordering on the impossible. So you decide to do something about it and look at joining an internet business opportunity. Right. So where do you begin and what do you look for? Before you even start googling there are a few things you need to think about. It’s no good just jumping in on the first opportunity that you stumble across and hope that it is the answer to your prayers.
With so many – literally thousands of new online opportunities being launched each week, it’s easy to get sucked in and end up like the 97% of people that NEVER make a profit online. Yes you read that right 97% of people that start an online internet business fail. So to have a chance at being in the top 3% that do make it – Ask yourself
1 Does this business opportunity ignite a spark of passion within me?
It’s easier to stick with something if you have a passion for it. The business you are looking at should give you the opportunity to develop and grow as a person? Will it let you help your children, your parents, your friends, your neighbours and your community? Is it something you can really believe in and sink your teeth into to not only change your life for the better but your whole community as a whole? In other words will it make you a better person?
If you don’t get up each morning full of excitement, ready to start the day and work at your business and yourself through learning as much as you can and being mentored by some of the top earners and producers in the industry today, then look for another opportunity.
2 Does it sound too good to be true?
If it does, then it will more than likely really be too good to be true and you will find yourself deeper in debt and more disillusioned then ever, with nothing to show for your efforts. These are usually the ‘get rich schemes’ that promise you the world and give you nothing but heartache.
If any one offers you a ‘miracle’ system that will literally make you a million overnight – run, run as fast as you can. Making money online takes dedication, determination, a willing less to succeed, time and money. Like respect, money needs to be earned, it can’t be bought.
3 How much money and time are you willing to invest in the business?
It is recommended that you have at least $3k – $5k to spend. Firstly on joining an opportunity and then the advertising. Other costs that may be involved are our own domain names, hosting fees, monthly memberships, affiliate fees, your own costs like phone bills, internet bills and purchasing of some software/computer equipment that you don’t already have. Each online business opportunity has its own costs and fees, so make sure you know what these are before you hand over your money.
You also need to be aware that you will most likely need to educate yourself firstly about the business and how it operates, but also on your knowledge of internet marketing and how to market yourself using Social Media tools like Facebook, Twitter, writing your own blogs, making video’s for YouTube and many more.
In the beginning you may find that your are spending just as much time working from home, as you would for a boss, so keep this in mind if you are still working at a Job
Although if you only have a couple of hours a day to work on your business, that is fine too – it is your business and you can grow it as fast or slowly as you like.
4 What training and support does the company give you
There is nothing worse then handing over your money to an opportunity and then being left to your own devices, with no training or support, even from your sponsor – unless you know what you are doing and how to do it. Having no support or training will most likely see you in the 97% of people that never make any money out of their internet businesses.
This is an important point. If you are totally new or not so new at marketing, you will want to have as much information and support at your fingertips as you need. A great company will offer these to you by way of training. Giving you a step by step guide on how to start your business, how to set up your social media sites, tips on writing your own blogs, giving you your own branded websites, being easily contactable and having an online forum for it’s members to ask questions and get help from the experts and top earners in the network marketing business today.
5 The products
Look for a business that is offering something of value to its customers. By value I mean that it is something that they need and want and preferably is a little unique in the marketplace. Let’s face it just how many different vitamins and minerals can people buy?
Try to find something that doesn’t consist of you having boxes and boxes or products to sell. Who wants their house filled with that? It costs you to purchase and then you need to sell it too make a profit, but what if you never sell it? Are you going to use all those products/vitamins before they are past their use by dates? If you can find a business opportunity that sells information or allows you to do a drop ship order that is a much better way to go. Firstly as information can be sent over the internet (no postage fees) and if it gets a little out dated it is easy to update.
If you like this post feel free to share it with your friends. I would love to hear your comments as well. Tell me what you think about starting your own internet business or ask me a question – I’m more than happy to help.
Stay tuned for part 2 of this series…..
